-ABOUT ME-

Hi everyone, my name is Sebastian J. Smith, I’m a 29-year-old artist, animator, illustrator and cosplayer with passion and stamina. I live in a town called Dapto with my family and friends. I’ve attended the local schools, Dapto Public and Kanahooka High School within the region, achieving multiple awards in visual arts.

After graduating year 12, I studied at North Wollongong TAFE for two years and completed my Screen & Media Diploma. During the two years at TAFE, I started the costuming hobby called “Cosplay”. Although I first took part in cosplay in 2007 at Animania Sydney, I began to get my name out there and promote myself in 2010’s Supanova Sydney. I have dressed up as many different characters from Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, One Piece, Pokémon and even Disney. After achieving my Diploma of Screen & Media, I went back to study Visual Arts at West Wollongong TAFE in 2012. During 2013 I took a year hiatus to concentrate on my art and to replenish myself.

In 2014, I started volunteering at the longest-running community gallery in Wollongong called “Art Arena Gallery Inc.”, during that time, I have showcased many times in multiple shows.

In February 2015, I exhibited my artworks at Art Arena Gallery for the first time. The show was called “Fantasía (The Art of Sebastian J. Smith)” that featured some of my Graphic Designs, Caracul, Pastel, and Costumes. For my first exhibit, I feel it was very successful. During the 2015’s Comic Gong in Wollongong, I came in 1st place in the above 13’s Cosplay Competition.

In 2016, I’d exhibited my artworks again at Art Arena Gallery. My second solo exhibition was called “Ultimo (The Art of Sebastian J. Smith)” that featured some previous and new works. At 2016’s Comic Gong in Wollongong, I came in 1st place again in the above 18’s Cosplay Competition. During that the time I was at studying the Digital Business Hub in Wollongong.

In 2017, I exhibited my costumes at the Wollongong Art Gallery, and the exhibition was called “Cosplay by Sebastian J. Smith” during Comic Gong 2018.

In 2018, I worked on different projects, exhibiting works of mine, commissions, and attending pop-culture conventions.
